At Spring COMDEX 1988 in Atlanta, Commodore was promoting the Amiga 500 and Amiga 2000, the company’s newest Amiga models.
The 500 and 2000 had been launched in 1987, and they were already attracting strong interest in Europe (particularly the affordable 500). Commodore was looking to expand its presence in the US market, and saw COMDEX as an opportunity to present the Amiga as a serious alternative in a rapidly changing computer market.
COMDEX was largely dominated by IBM PC compatibles and business software, so Commodore used the show to highlight the Amiga’s strengths beyond gaming. The company positioned the Amiga as a capable business, graphic arts, and desktop video system, emphasizing its multitasking operating system, advanced graphics, video capabilities, and expandability.
My latest recreation is of a colourful Amiga poster I’ve found online from that show.
