Released in 1987, the Amiga 500 still remained a favorite for home computing into the early ’90s. While many of us remember it as the ultimate gaming machine, Commodore UK was busy rebranding the Amiga as the essential tool for the next generation of scholars through the Class of the 90s - First Steps promotional bundle. This was a home computer designed to bridge the gap between education and entertainment!
In 1990, this specific bundle featured the Amiga 500 alongside a suite of software like Deluxe Paint II and Pro Write 2.5 and various prodctivity titles and educational utilities (even a BBC emulator!). A video cassete was also included with demonstrations of the capabilities of the machine and various use cases of the included software along with testimonials of people using the Amiga for educational purposes. All these were intended to make the 16-bit revolution feel productive to parents, even if for most young owners their actual time was spent exploring the vast games library of the machine.
Enjoy my recreated front cover of the bundle’s original packaging in high-resolution!
